The other day I was smoking grass and thinking to myself "Ya know... it would be sooo great if there was another movie about almost gay male models featuring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson making the same face for nearly two hours". Granted, I also thought that if I put my hand on my dog's head while touching my forehead with her paw and we both really thought hard that our minds would form some sort of cosmic link allowing me to finally figure out why she insists on shitting in my boots every morning.
Point is I smoke too much pot and am hardly the place where good ideas for movies come from... not always anyhow... (I'm pretty sure that a conversation I had with some drunken weirdo in the back of a Charlotte bar about fucking a cat directly influenced Avatar).
But apparently someone else was having the same thought cause Ben Stiller (you remember him... short guy who used to make real funny movies), in a recent interview with MTV News, claimed that a sequel to the 2001 hit Zoolander is indeed in our near future.
“We are in the process of getting a script written. It’s in the early stages, but it’s gonna happen...We have a new story idea that we feel excited about and we’re going to try to go forward. The beginning of the movie is [set]… 10 years later, and Derek & Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves.”
In the same interview Stiller claims that in a perfect world Will Ferrell will return to reprise his role as insane megalomaniacal fashion designer Mugatu, but that the ball is totally in Ferrell's court as to whether or not the character comes back.
“If Will says yes, he definitely has to be a part of it. To me, Mugatu is one of the classic screen villains of all time.”
For those of you who had forgotten, Zoolander was Stiller's breakout comedy which featured him as Derek Zoolander, the former number one male model in the world until that damned Hansel came along until he stumbles upon a dark coincidence between male models and political assassinations. It was regarded as a huge hit, but sadly since then Stiller has been stuck making kissy fish face in all of his roles. No word as to hen exactly to expect the Zoolander sequel, but with the lack of creativity in Hollywood these days I’m sure it will be sooner than later.
