James Cameron talking more Avatar...

James_Cameron_lr01_540x359James Cameron is wasting little time in becoming this generation's George Lucas...

While on a press tour promoting the rerelease of the highest grossing film ever made (Avatar), the verbose Cameron not only tried to convince folks as to why they should spend another $15 to see a movie they more than likely already own, but also why they should buy the yet to be released novelization upset movie as well as... wait for it... the two sequels to the 2009 sci-fi epic.

First, to the whoring...

When asked by MarketSaw about the rerelease of the original Avatar (not to mention the rumored extra minutes that have been added in), Cameron had this to say:

avatar-navi-2It’s actually nine! [Extra minutes.] I added some since that press release. It’s all CG. None of it is kinda boring shots of people sitting around in offices at the base, drinking coffee. It’s all out in the rainforest, some of it is at night. There is a big hunt sequence that’s got a lot of flying, a lot of banshee stuff, riding direhorses, very high-energy, high-impact action. There’s a very powerful emotional scene towards the end that has been added back.

There’s some stuff where the Na’vi sort of counterattack after the bulldozers destroy the willowblade, that’s a night attack scene. And the aftermath of that, how the humans react to that and the steps leading to the war. There’s some stuff with Grace in the school in the jungle, there’s a creature called a stingbat which is brought back in [that one was in the video game] as well as the sternbeast, which is the animal that they hunt. We see hundreds of those…There are some little bits that have been put back into the end battle. Little action beats, and a little bit added to the love scene, and some other night stuff. It’s all top-quality stuff, it’s all on par with the rest of the film.

That's great James... that comes out to a $1.67 for each new minute!!!

(This of course does not count the obvious 30 or so extra dollars we are all going to drop out around Christmas time for 0108_Avatar_theater_china_full_600the definitive home tree edition, complete with those nine extra minutes, Banshee rider styled cardboard 3-D specs, and a toothpick sized shard of Hometree so you can keep the Na'vi with you always...)

And now, about that much talked about novelization of the said below film and the rumors that the book is to be penned by the great James Cameron himself...

Cameron told MTV:

I never had a chance to get the novel done while we were making the movie, and I always intended to. I didn’t want to do a cheesy novelization where some hack comes in and makes shit up. I wanted to do something that was kind of a legitimate novel that was inside the characters’ heads. Ideally that becomes a bible for any other writers that want to come along and riff off with other Avatar-based stories. I don’t mind opening up the universe; I just don’t want that to happen until I’ve got more meat on the bones.

Cameron also told MarketSaw that right now (for the next couple of months anyway) will be the completion of the novelized version of the original Avatar.

avatar-2

Primary focus? That must mean there must be something going on in the periphery... say a sequel or two (which after generating over $1 billion in its first run was all but guaranteed for Avatar)...

Again, to MarketSaw, Cameron stated:

I have an overall narrative arc for 2 and 3, and there are some modifications to that based on my experiences in the last few months from having gone down to the Amazon and actually hung out with various indigenous groups who are actually living this type of story for real…but it’s not changing the overall pattern. I haven’t gotten the script done yet; that’s going to be a ways out.

 Boooo...

Slightly more promising was what Cameron told MTV, stating that he was waiting to get all the deals for Avatar 2 hammered out before he was going to start penning the second (and third) installments of the franchise.

First my childhood and now my middle age...

Sci-fi nerds have seen this all before...

The talking about unwritten sequels... the attempts to control spin off literature... rereleasing slightly tweaked versions of the movie we of already seen in undoubtedly already own...

george-lucas-net-worthThis is George Lucasian behavior, without a shadow of a fucking doubt.

Let's just all hope that this time around it isn't such an obvious fan boy rape as the hype and bullshit around the most recent trilogy (and those whispers of a six film 3-D re-re-re-rerelease) as it has been with Lucas...

Fucking hate George Lucas...
