It would be easy for this list to ask of the name of the song I felt was "the worst song ever" or “worst band ever”. But it’s a knee jerk question in which the response has less to do with any good, thought out reason and more to do with your taste at the time.
And besides that, it has been done to fucking death.
So instead of telling you that, the Challenge is asking for something kind of thought provoking...
"The band that ruined everything..."
A novel thought... name the band that I felt brought about a musical movement which was never as amazing as its pioneer had illustrated it could have been.
When i think back to the later parts of the 90s, the one thing that sticks out the most to me is the stark change in the rock music.
Once spirited with an indie soul and garage sensibilities, the alternative rock of the early to mid-90s were soon replaced with distorted bass and hip hop beats of Nu Metal.
Loud, ignorant, and soulless- the Nu Metal movement’s lineage can be directly linked back to one band…
Rage Against The Machine.
It was Rage that first successfully brought rock music and rap music into this perfect balance so fragile in the end it could not even stand its own weight.
In their short time, Rage gave this world three great albums (and a cover record that was spotty at best but did have its moments). But it's not their music standing as their lasting legacy.
Without Rage, bands like Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock would have never been thought to have any sort of chance at making it in a pop market not to mention the tremendous upswing in Che Guevara merch since their making him cool)
So without further ado... Rage with “People of the Sun”…
