Day 20: Song you wouldn't peg me for liking...

beautiful-black-and-white-girl-glitter-keha-kesha-Favim.com-69518_thumbMusic used to be able to say a lot about a person.

The kind of music you preferred would say what kind of crowd you ran with, the vices you held close… even the kind of sex you were interested in having (let’s face it, Guns N’ Roses fans can take and lay pipe way better than say those who toe tap to the dulcet tones of, say, John Denver)…

But these days it is not quite that way…

It would seem upon first glance that we- as a culture- are more divided as ever in our tastes. Satellite radio and iTunes are littered with what seems to be an endless stream of musical genres-pop, rock, country, hip hop, electronica, metal- and within those genres there are subsets- for example, in the case of “rock” you have rock, alt rock, underground alt rock, country rock, ect, ect, ect. But while there has been a more exact division, more and more of our ears are tuned into a wider array of musical types.

It is not all that uncommon for a person to like metal, hip hop, and perhaps a few nice samples of 70’s easy listening.

Which makes the whole idea of a someone liking a song that others might find a bit out there for that person is tougher to do…

But it does happen…

Where a song might not necessarily be your typical cup of tea but for whatever reason it happened to catch your ears at just the right time and blammo! There you are front row at Semi Precious Weapons bouncing around like a loon screaming along to some song about trannie sex (just an example…).

For me, it is not all that uncommon for a song “out of my comfort zone” to make it into my consciousness and start to infiltrate my life. Lately I have found myself more and more gravitating to these various types of music that typically I would have avoided- country, bluegrass, blues, and something I am slightly ashamed to be digging as much as I have been called “Hipstertronica”.But as weird as all that stuff is for me to be listening to, it is noting as out there as this one song I have no excuse for liking…

Because it sucks in every way a song could suck…

Ke$ha, “Blow”…
