Nine months ago, DC COMICS announced the reboot of 52 of their major titles. “The New 52”, as they would come to be known, proved to be a successful move; breathing new and fresh life into many of the tired titles muddies by bastardized offshoot after bastardized offshoot and cheapened by lesser pens.
In this move, the comic book published promised to bring a modern look and experience to the characters and stories that they would be telling.
Apparently, being gay is part of modernization.
While it had alluded to perhaps a new character or even a bigger named side character (said to perhaps be in the pantheon of Bat-Man characters. This rumor proved to be true as Bat-Girl is an out lesbian) being the openly gay character, words has come out of DC that a major titled book will have its main character come out as gay.
While speaking at the DC Comics panel at the KAPOW , DC co-publisher Dan DiDio announces plans to reintroduce an established character as gay, with Senior Vice President of Sales Bob Wayne explaining that, just like the President of the United States, the co-publisher’s policy on this “has evolved.”
Between you and I, it would not be too stunning to see them have Aquaman come out as a gay, though the timing for such a risky move could not be worse for the fledgling book, which had always struggled to find the level of popularity it had been gathering as of late under the skilled pen of Geoff Johns.
But going gay is all the rage these days, and if it means turning the first real shot of relevancy for the fledgling book into a forgettable, cheap stunt done for no other reason than to try and make sure the world understands just how into the Gay you really are…
Because that is all this is (just was Obama’s bullshit announcement a few weeks back that he has somehow “evolved” into supporting gay
marriage)… a quick move to get some cheap ink and a nice pop out in the media showing the rest of us just how politically correct and lovable you are…
