So much for those rumors of Tim Tebow's healing powers...

In a move that shocked the college football world and brought a screeching halt to the holiday festivities for the millions within Gator nation, University of Florida head football coach Urban Meyer has announced that he is stepping down as head coach of the U. of Florida Gators after their appearance in the 2010 Sugar Bowl in January 1st due t health concerns.  Meyer, 45, is stepping down with a 56-10record with the Gators, including winning two national championships and compiling a school winning streak of 22 wins.

Coach Meyer had been admitted into the hospital with chest pains after his team's loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship, costing the tim-tebow-urban-meyerGators a shot at this year's National Championship as well as a second Heisman award to team captain/ Savior of all Mankind Tim Tebow.

"There was no heart damage," Meyer told The New York Times, referring to the night he was admitted to the hospital. "But I didn't want there to be a bad day where there were three kids sitting around wondering what to do next. It was the pattern of what I was doing and how I was doing it. It was self-destructive."

It is believed that those chest pains are causing Meyer to step down.

A source familiar to the situation in Florida has told ESPN's Chris Mortenson that Meyer's illness is not life threatening, and that urban would stay in Gainesville in a non-coaching role within the university.

Meyer is expected to hold a press conference on Sunday and is expected to lead his team one more time on January 1st sugar bowl, where the Florida Gators will face off against the undefeated (and also coach less, thanks to Norte Dame) Cincinnati Bearcats.

In a statement released yesterday Meyer said "I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program.  I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family."

Touching...

And while we at the Constitutional do wish Urban Meyer and his family all the best, this situation does cause us to ponder...

deal-with-devilAfter having had 5 very successful yeas s the head coach of what many would argue to be among the premier programs in all of collegiate athletics 9including having had the pleasure of acting as mentor and guide to the best player in college football ever), the young and healthy looking Meyer steps down from his position due to a non- life threatening illness?  Something just does not stir this pudding....

For a man to walk away from everything like this, either a) the rumors are all true an Meyer did in fact have a pact with Satan and now the Devil's come to get him his due, b) Tim Tebow really is the Son of God and his ever sinking draft position has drawn the ire of The Most High upon Coach Meyer, or c) Urban Meyer's stressful and strenuous life as a coach has caught up to him finally and he has decided to leave it all behind for the good of himself and for the good of his family.

tebow-christ2And of course while it makes all the sense in the world for the long hours, the constant stress of meeting very high expectations, as well as the often violent roller coaster ride that is the emotional range of  a big time football coach in one of the nation's premier football programs to eventually catch up to anyone, to have  Meyer's health concerns linked to either a contract with Satan or the actions of a vengeful God upon His Son's football coach makes for a more compelling end to the storied collegiate career of Tim "White Jesus" Tebow.
