Among the various titles that have been spinning around out there (including the placement of necessary repairs to the yet to be enacted Obamacare bill), bringing a much needed reform to the American War on Drugs is among his agenda points.
But it isn’t the need to reform the failing drug war in this country that has the internet buzzing… it’s the leaks that among those changes would be an “evolution” on the Administration’s view of Marijuana.
In an exclusive “discussion” with President Obama’s aides and officials from his campaign, GQ’s Marc Ambinder reported that in the President’s second term, the War on Drugs would be a focal point.
According to ongoing discussions with Obama aides and associates, if the president wins a second term, he plans to tackle another American war that has so far been successful only in perpetuating more misery: the four decades of The Drug War.
Don't expect miracles. There is very little the president can do by himself. And pot-smokers shouldn't expect the president to come out in favor of legalizing marijuana. But from his days as a state senator in Illinois, Obama has considered the Drug War to be a failure, a conflict that has exacerbated the problem of drug abuse, devastated entire communities, changed policing practices for the worse, and has led to a generation of young children, disproportionately black and minority, to grow up in dislocated homes, or in none at all.
And the leaks didn’t end there…
Huffington Postclaimed to have gotten this nugget of information:
Sources close to the White House also told The Huffington Post that the administration is looking at ways that it can reduce barriers to reentering society for those caught up in the drug war, such as a longstanding policy that denies federal financial aid to college students convicted of drug-related offenses, including possession.
Just say No-Bama….
So where has this new found concern for the millions (and millions) effected by the ill fought Drug War suddenly come from…
Fear of a low voter turnout having them start grasping at the stoner straw a little early?
Not for nothing but why would anyone believe that Obama isn’t just blowing smoke with this floated balloon intended to try and gin up support from yet another typically liberal leaning voting block that has become disillusioned with Obama and unlikely to vote at all, let alone for Obama.
I distinctly recall then Presidential nominee Senator Barrack Obama was going on and on about leaving medicinal marijuana dispensaries alone so long as they are following their individual state laws and how perhaps we should be taking a look at how we do things...
But that was the "old Barry"... the guy who thought health care mandates were unconstitutional and counterproductive ... this is terrorist killing, jack booted Obama, leaving in his wake a trail of state approved dispensaries in California and Colorado getting their doors kicked in and the licenses pulled and patients in need of their medicine left hanging in the waste or forced to take highly addictive drugs… All while law enforcement is raking in a BILLION in fines and funding by keeping this shell game going (included in these BILLION, I might add, is the hundreds of millions the Police and prison guard unions can then funnel back into Washington to make sure that Senators keep their heads "right" when it comes to marijuana and legality).
But the plan from the Presidents re-elect committee would seem to be that potheads (and those sympathetic to their cause) would be willing to overlook all of Obama's shortfalls (or, let’s be honest, out and out forgot or never gave a shit; too busy puttin' flame to this kind bud to harsh the vibe with these filthy politics) on this issue during his first term (as, unlike the first go around, there is a concrete record for all of us to determine exactly how he would reign in his second term) but also ignore all the promises that got him into the big chair in the first place that he left flapping in the wind.
Besides, he is in the Office NOW. If this was such a concern for him and such a huge issue that the American government needs to take a good long look into then why isn’t this disingenuous fuck not doing something about it NOW. Why isn’t he going out when he does those shitty press conferences and simply state that the American policy towards those who suffer from drug addictions needs to be reevaluated; the same way he handles it when those cockfuck Republicans are not going to let him raise taxes or put America into another trillion dollars of insurmountable debt because- God forbid- Government could never do without.
He is in charge, after all…
