We, the Fascists....

5414a-stivianoLast weekend, we were all treated to a private conversation between the decrepit owner of the LA Clippers and his belly warmer, V Stiviano. It didn't take long for this bit of gossip to grow hair, President Obama starting the rock throwing with a few statements while on his Oriental Tour. It has since grown into an all out lynch mob, with the usual cast of characters all fighting to make their outrage heard. The reverends Jackson and Sharpton shows up, their weeping rent-a-mobs all demanding Justice.  The TV talking heads are all prostrating themselves, seeing who can out outrage one another.

Then the hammer came down, the commissioner of the NBA suspending the bigoted fossil for life, fining him 5414a-sterling2.5 million, and hunting that a forced sale of his team might also be on the horizon. Cheers came from sea to shining sea as our zeitgeist went into a blood rage, the fresh kill dropped before us to celebrate his demise. TV commentators cheered at his lost team, celebrities have the corpse one final kick... All to the sounds of our furious applause.

But it's the reason for the celebration that has me worried... As it has slowly drawn out the long knives of the other disenfranchised to see if they too can claim their pound of flesh....

And it's scary.

We should all be afraid... Very afraid...

Not of some dark oligarchy of shadowy figures lurking in the shadows of the Government (though the recent allocations bearing fruit in the IRS scandal should also have us quaking), but rather of our well intentioned fellow citizens.

Because we are facing a period of American history not seen since the creepy days of Joe McCarthy and he red scare of the 50s.

We are facing American Fascists.

5414a-smileyfascismI'm sure we have all tossed around the term "fascist" before... Or claimed that such and such politician is Hitler or Stalin. While such hyperbole is fun and can help in painting a picture, it has cheapened our sensitivity to these men and the actions that they did.

Bush, Obama, Clinton, Reagan,…. These men did nothing as detrimental to the culture Of this nation quite like we, the People, have in these last few years.

Because they aren't the ones demanding lock step compliance (it would be unconstitutional for them to do so).

But we have.

We started with demanding apologies, occasionally taking a scalp in hopes to get the message across…

Then we demonized the words, hoping to curb aberrant thoughts and beliefs through public dismissal and isolation.

What started innocently, and (usually) with merit... The rising voices of the underclass and the down trodden, seeking equal representation in the power management, turns ugly and sinister... Those same disenfranchised begin feeling their oats (and the seduction of money and power corrupts what principles they might have once held dear) and begin making new demands as opportunities arises.

And now that we have had our collective minds set right... Now comes the lynch mobs.

KIll the Pig!!! Cut his Throat!!!

It started with the Brenden Eich (which, I believe, is the most egregious of these most recent brown shirt targets), having had him step down from his position at Mozilla because of a thousand dollar donation he made to a California ballot initiative (which won, I might add) defining Marriage as an act between a man and a woman. Now comes Sterling, his leaked private tapes featuring his calm and well thought out theories on race that seem to be too shocking to be uttered in 21st century America enough to have his private property stripped from him. Then CNN anchor Rachael Nichols made this stunning proclamation, perhaps tipping the hand as to where this nonstop train to fascism is headed…

“… In the NBA you have an owner in Orlando, Rich DeVos who's made very unpopular statements.  He's campaigned against gay rights.  He says that gay people should stop asking for special treatment because they want to get married.  There are a lot of people in this country who think that that is a problem, and I think that there is gonna be more and more attention paid to what these owners think.  It's not just the players in the spotlight now, it's not just management. They're accountable, too…” alluded the bubble headed news reader, claiming that this might be something the league should be looking into, since it is in the position of having thought police dictating the sorts of thinking the NBA owners should be of the mindset of…

5414a-libfascAnd then Jessie Jackson, never to be undone, turned the fiery eye of reparations to the NFL; hoping the NFL commissioner was taking notes in the ways civilized organizations handle their racists (furthering this to nowhere movement to have the Redskins change their team name).

And do we shudder at such sights; seeing this the movements of totalitarians making a check mate maneuver on the thinking of this country (where any thoughts not given the stamp of Progressive Left approval will be eradicated from any civilized organization)???

No, we cheer... We clap and high five; all of us happy to see some villain get his due. But what sort of standard are we setting going forward?

We are happy as hell to see this rich, old jerk get his due; kick him out of the league and force the sale of his team because of a controversy stemming from a private conversation that a maliciously bent person released. But where is this going to lead?

He isn't the first guy to have his hand slapped because of the unfortunate release of private thoughts, statements, or correspondence. This is actually something becoming far too common in this "Land of Freedom", where the citizens are already at a point where they have to constantly reassure one another they aren't racist/sexist/et al while exchanging ideas.

What happens when this takes the next turn... Say a neighbor tapes another neighbor saying less than polite things about minorities while in kitchen. Can the HOA then fine that homeowner because the neighborhood to 5414a-fascismpunish such uncouth thought? Or force the sale of the house so as to not have such a blight dragging them down karmicly?? If he has a business, could they force it to close??? Not by an organized boycott or simply allowing the free market to decide for itself, but forcing the sale/closure through private committee because a body permitting such old fashioned thinking shouldn't be permitted to earn money, or perhaps petition his employer to terminate him?  (And again, not from public pronouncements but from leaked audio/video taken in private.)

Thats what we are so happy is happening with this case…

But its stupid to try and defend this man…

Private thoughts or not, at this point the mind of a racist old man has been exposed for the world to see (nice little cover he had for himself too… a sweet little black chippy on his arm, a shelf full of NAACP awards and accolades lining his mantle… Its almost like he could go on owning an NBA team that he ran like Candie Land since 1981, all while gaining quite the reputation- and legal bills- for becoming one of the biggest slum lords in southern California, using such favorable, cash purchased favor. It’s almost like the LA chapter of the NAACP was selling off racist indulgences like the Catholic Church of the Middle Ages so popularly had done).

But perhaps, once the blood lust has faded and the afterglow of sending some other neredowell off to the cold great beyond of infamy, we can sit and think if this is the sort of Country we want to be…

5414a-burning flagWe have a right to speak freely… one that our elected officials cannot strip from us (not without our letting them, anyways). But in our day to day lives, shouldn't we at the very least be able to have such a privilege in the privacy of our own homes??? Whether some angry bitch looking for anything to embarrass you with happens to record you or not…

That is something we need to figure out, and quickly…

The Nanny Statists among us are more than willing to take away our privacy for whatever the cause du jour happens to be at that moment… and once we lose that, we will never, ever get it back.

Just a little something to think about…
