Not a day since having to say goodbye to Gary Coleman, the world had another star burn out. Actor Dennis Hopper, best known for performances in Apocalypse Now, Easy rider, and Hoosiers, has succumbed to prostate cancer. He was 74.
A brilliant actor and director, Hopper's career had a ton of ups and down- with many of the downs attributed to his legendary drug and alcohol abuses (it is rumored that Hopper would consume as much as a gallon of rum a day on top of mountains of coke during his heyday). stories of Hopper's iritic drug induced behavior is the stuff of Hollywood legend, most famously an episode that occurred during the filming of True Grit where Hopper apparently pissed of John Wayne so much the icon chased stoned out Hopper around the set with a loaded gun.
But despite the hang ups, Hopper's brilliance always seemed to shine through. He received two academy Award nominations in his career: one for writing the script to the iconic Easy Rider (with Peter Fonda and Terry Southern) as well as a Best Supporting Actor nod for his work in Hoosiers. He was also heralded for impressive work in films such as Blue Velvet, Speed, Apocalypse Now, True Romance, and Super Mario Bros.
Safe home Dennis Hopper...Here's something to remember him by...
