Palin thinks pot's no biggie...

large_sarah_palinJust when you think you got someone figured out...

During an appearance last week on the Fox Business Network with Ron Paul, Sarah Palin- the insane pin-up girl of the Teabagger movement- came off sounding rather liberal in regards to marijuana laws in America.

"If we're talking about pot, I'm not for the legalization of pot... I think that would just encourage especially our young people to think that it was OK to just go ahead and use it."

And just as you had her all penned up in the moral majority box, she goes and pulls the stutter step...

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," Palin said. "And if somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody else any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems that we have in society."

She went on to refer to recreational use of marijuana as a "minimal problem” and that the American War on Drugs is a "useless battle".

Love those Northern Lights...

marijuana-flagSarah Palin is no stranger to pot.  In 2008, the Marijuana Policy Project announced that Palin had before publicly acknowledge that she had in fact tried marijuana while it was legal in Alaska (she stated that she did inhale, but that she didn't like it).

And while she keeps herself from fully embracing out and out legalization behind the brainless banner of "Wrong message for kids...” I would say this is a step in the right direction...

And it might be the first of many.

Think about it...

For Sarah Palin, taking up marijuana legalization as one of her new issues would be a smart step for the would be 2012 candidate.  it is a low risk issue these days (polls show fifty percent of the American people feel that marijuana should be taxed and legalized) and is one that would easily slide into her 'less government in our lives" shtick.  embracing an issue like marijuana legalization would give her the appearance of being one of thee edgy new "Libertarian Lite" Republicans (thus making her seem less like the robotic stiffs puking out the party line that she is going to have to slug it out with during the primaries), breaking a little of that "Religious Right" shell she has been living under.  That, combined with the seemingly endless shit storm that President Obama seems to consistently find himself in, might be enough to draw the eye of independents and small government leaning democrats to maybe give the old' girl a second look.

But for her to publicly come out for an issue she has previously pooh-poohed publicly does require her to soften the blow.  maybe her open discussion of not wanting cops (both state and federal) to make a big deal about people just burning a joint in the privacy of their own home in the beginning of edgy new "Sarah Palin".

Guess we will just have to wait and see...
