Sharpton calls for FCC meetig with Limbaugh...

al-sharptonThis should frighten the living shit out of everyone reading this...

Known race-baiter and rabble rouser Rev. Al Sharpton has made a very public call for the Federal Government to censor the free speech of an American...

Rush Limbaugh.

While on The Ed Show (I never heard of it either), Rev. Al demanded that Rush Limbaugh and other radio talk show hosts to be dragged before the FCC to answer questions.

rush_limbaughClaiming to want something like the communist witch hunts Sen. Joe McCarthy headed up in the 1950s, Sharpton stated that he would like to see the Conservative talk icon and his ilk (Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage) as well as the owners of the stations that run these programs to "... come in front of the FCC and answer direct questions on direct statements and how they may be offensive based on gender and race so that the FCC can then shape policy based on the results of those public hearings."

"I wanted them to make an affirmative stand," Sharpton said, "but if we've got to go into the public hearings to see if they can do that, I think that that would be a very, very good thing for the American public to see these people have to do this."

If you can't beat them, outlaw them... right Al?

And here's the conspiracy...

So, anyone want to bet me that there is no fucking way in Hell Al Sharpton dreamed this little plan up all by himself???

Al_SharptonSure, he has had his beefs with Limbaugh before and I'm sure between the two there is no love lost, but one has to think that for someone in the Free Speech game, as the bull horned Sharpton is, to come out demanding for the Government to start censuring things that make the good reverend a little bit uncomfortable seems weird.

I mean, this is still America, where the nation can turn on a dime. Al has to be clairvoyant enough to know that people who share his political ideology may not always be in power and- if he is so insistent on setting a precedent on letting those in power deem what can or cannot be said on public airwaves- it only sets him up to eventually be on the receiving end of whatever censuring Gollum he is conjuring up with his cage rattling.

Unless he feels that by doing this, it can forever keep those currently in power with it.

But even with that political motivation acknowledged, it still does not make sense for an old "shake down artist" like Sharpton to go and tear down his food source. Sure, from time to time Rush or Beck or somebody will say something that will get Al's girdle all up I a bunch and force him to go and start knocking on the doors of their sponsors demanding a little "walking around money' to make this feeling of insult and slight be ignored. They had a symbiotic relationship like that.

But to force the meal ticket off the air???

To me that reeks of button pushing of the highest order.

Follow my thought on this:

Say we have an Administration that has been getting it's ass kicked in the media, especially in the "new media"- such as fcc-logoblogs, talk radio (both terrestrial and internet), and on a cable channel of note. And let's say, for the sake of argument, that not only has this Administration found itself losing ground in public opinion polls but also in the most recent election, where not only legislative seats were lost but also several state level executive and legislative seats.

The people this Administration is attempting to lead are becoming more resistant to the prods of the Administrations; it opposition growing louder while supporters grow more cynical and jaded.

Wouldn't it make sense to try and shut up these voices of opposition before they ruin whatever is left of this administration's first (and perhaps only) term???

jesse_jackson_al_sharptonSo you send out a foot soldier, such as the Rev. Al- a useful idiot who has been in the news more recently for bitching and moaning about whatever some deejay said that hurt his feelings more than he has for anything productive that he himself might have done, to go start making a commotion about these complaints he has to some FCC commissioners that might be more apt- be it out of fear or blind political allegiance- to see things the same way as the administration does.

Makes sense, don't it?

Especially when you combine that with the recent news that FCC chairman Julius Genachowski has finally garnered enough legislative support to begin implementing his "Net Neutrality" plan; a plan that may believe will be the first foray of the Federal Government into controlling the content on the internet.

This really could be a grand scheme dreamed up in secret meetings held by those in the highest positions of power...

beckBut then again, it could also just be the most recent way that American Liberals have dreamed up to try and force through a new version of the "Fairness Doctrine" in order to limit what can be said on free terrestrial radio (a place just loaded to the gills with conservative thinkers who are none to pleased with our current administration and were given most of the credit in the inspiration of angry voters "kicking the bums out" during the last election). The only difference between this current version and the original version seems that instead of demanding equal time to have an opposing viewpoint heard Al just wants to skip right to the end of this slippery slope and go right to the making anything he (and the Administration by proxy) deem to be racist, inflammatory, sexist, and otherwise offensive illegal to said on the public radio waves.

Just think... pretty soon we will live in a nation where words like "LIBERAL" and ideas like shrinking the size and reach of a bloated Federal megalith will be in the same echelon as words like "CUNT", "NIGGER", and "COCKSUCKER".

Who watches the Watchers...

Maybe I am alone in thinking this is a horrific idea on an epic proportion...

no_free_speechAnd I don't doubt if I am. I realized a long time ago that the nation I was sold while attending school and the nation I have grown to inherit are two very different places. In my youth I was told of a nation of freedoms and liberties... a place where all things were possible so long as you could dream big enough and work hard enough. But I grew into a nation with a bloated Federal Government, feasting upon the liberties it stymies with fees, permits, and fines. I watched as the monolith cracked at its foundations- seeming all too willing to chisel away at its core principles of free speech and free press for some cheap comfort and false acceptance. I found a nation that once was known for its noted rugged individualism seeming all too happy with being very ordinary.

And sadly I fear that if Rev. Al get's his Christmas wish and actually manages to pull this off, our own end will surely follow.

boo-burningOnce Al gets Limbaugh and his cronies to shut up, do you really think that al and his jack booted national HR department will just go away??? If you do, you are sadly mistaken... next they will go after websites...

Then books...

And from there... where...

The guy who writes the?

The people who read them???

When exactly did our Constitutional call to hold ALL SPEECH sacred turn into us silencing those voices we find controversial, alarming, or just flat out not your tea (the very speech, mind you, the First Amendment is intent on preserving...)?

I really hate to go all alarmists on all of you but there is a war coming...

A war for the very soul of this nation...

bill-of-rightsWill we leave our children a country that stands for the freedoms of speech, press and assembly (cause you know once speech is gone, assembly will be shortly following) to exist despite all the security risks and bloviating morons (of which Rev. Al is one)? Or will we leave them a nation where we traded those gifts from Our Creator for a cheap sense of security and comfort?

"Without free speech no search for truth is possible... no discovery of truth is useful... Better a thousandfold abuse of free speech than denial of free speech. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slays the life of the people, and entombs the hope of the race." -Charles Bradlaugh
