Is anyone shocked to discover that the whole Balloon Boy thing from last week was all bullshit?
Just days after America spent the better part of two hours caring about something other than themselves, Law Enforcement has announced that charges are pending on Richard and Mayumi Heene, parents of the afore mentioned "Balloon Boy"., for that stunt these two pulled last Thursday.
As many of you may recall, last Thursday these two winners told authorities that their son has crawled in to an experimental weather balloon that the family had constructed and had floated off into the Colorado sky. A few hours after rescue officials caught up with the shockingly empty box attached to the balloon, officials went announced that they boy had in fact been sleeping in a box he had been hiding in in his family's attic.
Larimer County Sherriff Jim Alderden stated that charges would be presented to the District Attorney's office first thing Monday morning. These charges include: conspiracy, attempting to influence a public servant, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and false reporting to authorities (the most serious of these charges only carries a penalty of six years in the slam and a fine of $500,000). Sherriff Alderden also claimed that he would be speaking to the FAA to see if they would have anything to say on the matter (maybe in a federal court of law...)
"It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt. We believe that we have evidence at this point to indicate that it was a publicity stunt done with the hopes of marketing themselves or better marketing themselves for a reality television show at some point in the future. We were manipulated by the family and the media were manipulated by the family."
The Sherriff claimed that he had his "A-Ha" moment when he saw the boy, Falcon Heene, telling Wolf Blitzer that he had gone up in the attic because they "were doing It for the show."
Sadly, because of their ages (6, 8, and 10) no charges are expected to be filed on the children...
