Apparently Mohammed Mleihan, the mayor of a small Jordanian town who found itself the butt of one, doesn't...
The Al-Ghad, a newspaper in Jordan, ran a story on the front page of their April 1 edition alleging that aliens had landed in the eastern Jordanian town of Jafr. The paper claimed that ten foot tall creatures came out of flying saucers, knocking out communications in the town and were beginning to round up the frightened people which had taken to the streets.
The Mayor claims that his people were so terrified by the newspaper's reports that they didn't leave their houses.
"Students didn't go to school, their parents were frightened and I almost evacuated the town's 13,000 residents," Mr. Mleihan told the Associated Press. "People were scared that aliens would attack them."
Instead of a full scale evacuation, the mayor opted to let the local security know of the claims and had them sweep the city looking for ten foot tall aliens rounding up Arabs.Since the flap, the editors of the Al- Ghad have apologized for the prank, claiming that their little rouse had been intended to entertain the people, not frighten them.
