Thom Acee's Lenten Sacrifice...

THOM-ACEEWhen it comes to religion, I’m not the most devote of followers...

Hell, I am barely a follower... might make it into mass two, maybe three times a year...

But for some reason, despite my abilities to conform to any of the other silly "magic" rituals conscribed by Rome to its devotees, I always seem to keep my Lent.

2012I can grow potatoes in dirty bong water.

I can wire a solar cell from an old calculator to a flash light bulb and make it work.

I can purify urine to make it drinkable and salt water to make it suitable for crops using little more than an old pot and a shirt.

I can cleanly (and quickly) clean an animal carcass and butcher my own meat.

I am proficient with small arms (and all manner of weapons to be honest).

These are the things that I chose to do while my contemporaries were busy learning hirable skills... skills that would make them of some value to the system that is STILL currently in place, and will no doubt be in 2013.

In an effort to make sure that for the first time in the fourteen years that I have been parenting children that I finally get the nomination for Father of the Year, I decided I would do something other than convince myself that getting stoned and watching Spongebob Squarepants with the kids is being a good parent…

So this evening, while my wife took a much needed and well deserved few hours for herself, I took the reins on the whole taking care of the newborn.
