Considering how gung-ho George Lucas has been in making sure he wrings out ever freaking penny he can from the nostalgic memories of his core fans, it kind of shocked me that it took this long for an idea this good to come out.
A team of film students submitted to a Star Wars film contest an animated short featuring the exploits of Han Solo before he got all wrapped up in the Rebellion called The Solo Adventures.
The film, a submission from students of The Digital Animation & Visual Effects School (or DAVE School) to the 2010 Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge (where it took Best Animation and was heralded as a fan favorite) features the events leading up to the infamous dumping of Jabba's cargo that lead to the price being placed on Solo's head.
Check it out... (It's pretty good...)
This must be what serial rape victims feel like... the constant knowing exactly when they are about to get hit up one more time...
About two minutes into this thing I saw the promos in my mind for the coming Cartoon Network series. (And judging from the success that The Clone Wars series has had, it is safe to say it just might happen.)
And it might not suck...
After three fairly mediocre films about what happened before all the cool shit we grew up loving happened, to come across an idea that shows us a new story about a beloved character that really has a good shot of being entertaining and compelling.
But then again, it could end up like those horrific made for TV Ewok movies (as well as their short lived animated series) along with the equally horrifying Droids (a cartoon that followed along with the new adventures of C3PO and R2D2 as they go about relaying governmental messages between the heads of the rebuilding Republic. I can distinctly remember hating that fucking show while munching on a flavorless bowl of C3P-Ohs, a packing peanut flavored cereal that let you cut out the face of the most boring robot ever and wear it about as a mask!).
Either way, George Lucas can still eat a bowl of freshly dropped dog shit..
